Away is not about distance, but about immersion.
It reflects a shift, leaving behind familiar structures to engage with daily life elsewhere.
Through intimate moments, gestures, and shared time, this body of work explores what happens when observation gives way to presence, and photography becomes a tool for connection rather than description.
Away - Travel and Documentary Photography Series
Away is a travel photography series exploring immersion in unfamiliar environments and the subtle transformation that occurs when daily life is experienced elsewhere. Rather than documenting distance, the project focuses on presence. It observes the quiet moments that emerge when routine structures disappear and attention shifts toward the rhythms of a new place.
Developed across different regions of Indonesia, particularly in Bali, the series captures fragments of everyday life through a documentary photography approach. Streets, landscapes, gestures and encounters become elements of a broader visual narrative about travel and observation.
The photographs move between scenes of daily life, natural environments and intimate portraits. Markets, villages, coastal landscapes and spontaneous human interactions reveal the texture of places often experienced only briefly by travelers. Instead of searching for spectacle, the series focuses on simple moments where atmosphere and human presence intersect.
Some images highlight gestures and expressions that reflect cultural identity and local traditions. Others observe landscapes and environments that shape daily life, from tropical coastlines to village streets and quiet rural settings.
Through this body of work, travel becomes less about movement and more about attention. The camera becomes a tool for slowing down, allowing the photographer to witness subtle connections between people, places and time.
Visually the series combines documentary photography with contemporary fine art photography. Natural light, spontaneous composition and a close proximity to subjects create images that feel both immediate and reflective.
Beyond the photographic narrative, these images are also conceived as fine art photography prints. Printed in large formats, the textures of landscapes, faces and environments gain a new physical presence. The photographs are produced using museum quality pigment printing on archival papers such as Hahnemühle Photo Rag, Bamboo or Hemp.
As wall art photography, the Away series introduces a sense of travel, culture and human connection into interior spaces. These photographs integrate naturally into contemporary homes, hospitality spaces, boutique hotels and creative interiors where documentary imagery creates atmosphere and narrative.
Through these images the series reflects a deeper relationship with place, where observation gradually transforms into presence.
